LIMITATIONS OF TECHNOLOGY -- GIVE ME A BREAK!!!

Good Evening, Everyone:

May God Bless Everyone Who Reads This Article.

This past weekend I had a very lovely day at the beach.  It was exactly what the doctor ordered because my week started out somewhat like a "train wreck" but thanks to GOD, I successfully dealt with my challenges.  Sometimes they seem to be "never ending".  Like so many of you, I'm constantly trying to balance a number of issues that actually belong to "other people".

My trip to the beach helped me put things into perspective. Essentially, all that sustains us operates according to the "Laws of Nature".  These laws are neither "good" or "bad".  They are simply mechanisms that are necessary to "balance" our physical world as a whole.  When adversity seems to plague your life, it's a sure sign that something is definitely "out of balance" and needs to be "addressed".  Ignoring the obvious won't make the "negative" fallout go away.  In fact, it will only become more noticeable the more you try to avoid it.

I've have been working as a professional accountant for quite sometime and I have seen many changes in the business arena that have been fueled primarily by technological advancements.  Along with these innovations, too many managers and administrators have become so obsessed with maximizing profits at any costs that their expectations of their employees are somewhat "unrealistic".

Believe me, I have a very well defined "work ethic" but there is a difference between "working hard" and being "worked to death".  At some point in time, every employee has to have a break to briefly relax, eat and/or go to the bathroom.  It's only natural for humans to service their "bodily functions".  Even machines require routine maintenance in order to keep functioning properly.  Of course, some managers and administrators only pay lip service to work related rules and could care less about fairly enforcing them.  They just don't get it! Enough is enough!  Too few people can't accomplish a fairly complex assignment without the utilization of the proper tools.

Well deployed management information systems require more than the initial costs of personnel, software, equipment and time that was spent to install them.  To keep these systems fine tuned and producing output that is up-to-the-minute and accurate; additional money will have to be spent to maintain them on a continuous basis.  Within the last decade, I've seen so much raggedy, half-interfaced attempts to compute data with inadequate technology that it isn't even funny, anymore.  In fact, it's quite the opposite and I don't enjoy working in environments that are plagued by bad IT decision making by stubborn, computer illiterate administrators.

I sincerely pray that "Natural Law" will kick in and give most of them the boot!  The pendulum swings both ways and it's time for it to come back to the middle.

May God Bless All Of You,

Sistah Selah
