GOD IS MERCIFUL - NEW ORLEANS WAS SPARED

Good Morning, Everyone:

Unfortunately, I've been preoccupied with a family emergency that forced me to leave town for ten days.  This situation is still on going and I pray that GOD will continue to sustain me and my family.

I had to travel to Georgia between Hurricanes Gustav and Ike.  Luckily, the State of Georgia was not adversely affected by these storms except in regards to "good ole" price gouging at the gas pumps.  Mother Nature is constantly reminding us that in the wake of a natural disasters, mankind is still vulnerable and we should never take anything thing for granted -- especially GOD!

Hurricanes Gustav and Ike put the City of New Orleans on "pins and needles" because officials on the local, state and federal levels knew that the chances of the city surviving another "Katrina" like disaster were not good.  I applaud Gov. Bobby Jindal's actions in preparation for these storms.  He did not want to repeat the mistakes made by former Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco in the wake of the Hurricane Katrina.  This time, the State of Louisiana and the City of New Orleans were "on the same page" regarding disaster preparations.  Poverty was not an issue this time.  Free transportation to public shelters outside of New Orleans were available to anyone who wanted to evacuate.    Medically dependent citizens were evacuated early on to facilities outside of the city.  Hurricane Katrina taught public officials some valuable lessons and they did not hesistate to implement the necessary reforms.

Although I no longer live in New Orleans, Louisiana, I'm thankful that the city was spared.  I still have family, friends and acquaintances there that are very dear to me.  Rebuilding after Hurricane Katrina was quite a challenge for them and I would hate to see them lose everything, again.  Some have just moved back into their homes only within the last year.  Nothing is quite the way it used to be in New Orleans but its' citizens are determined to rebuild their communities and for this I applaud their efforts.  If you have ever spent any significant amount of time there, you would understand why the City of New Orleans is a very special place to its' citizens.

May Peace Be With All Of You,

Sistah Selah
