THE FLIP SIDE OF ADVERSITY IS OPPORTUNITY

Good Morning, Everyone:

May all of you have a most blessed week!

I know it has been a while since I’ve updated this blog, but I have been somewhat preoccupied with other personal matters.

If you’re like me, you are constantly wondering when this economy is going to significantly improve.  A few recent economic indicators are hopeful but everything else as a whole is still struggling.

I’m being bombarded more and more by people asking for “handouts” and I have decided “no more”!  I’m a very compassionate person who realizes that life can be tough, but at some point in time every individual has to become responsible for their own well being.  There are organizations that offer services to the most needy and they are simply going to have to utilize them.  My own resources are very limited and I’m somewhat skeptical about how the money a homeless person panhandles is being used.  May God bless them!

I sincerely believe that our economy will improve but not before many key industries finish “restructuring”.  The economy’s lackluster performance over the last two years has significantly compromised the cash reserves and revenue streams of too many private companies.  No company can remain financially solvent without a healthy cash flow and as a last resort, layoffs are initiated.  Most stable, hard working people are not used to losing their jobs but if anyone lives long enough, they’ll have to face this reality at some point.  Even government agencies are being forced to “tighten their belts” and will “layoff” employees, if necessary.

Under these circumstances, you can’t allow the current state of affairs to “stress you out”.  What is going to happen will happen.  How each person decides to deal with the side effects of this economic fallout is strictly a personal matter.  Life has taught me that the flip side of “adversity” is “opportunity” and you’ll never see it, if you are constantly living in the past.  I have adopted the following motto: “The past is history, the future a mystery and TODAY is a gift”.   I am thankful to GOD for today and every day he allows me to build a better future.  Everything may not evolve as I planned but as long as I’m committed to doing my best, I will land on my feet a better person.

May God Bless All of You,

Sistah Selah
